This Life Skills programme is a Peace VI funded project aiming to help build better relations between the different communities within Northern Ireland. Bringing together youth groups from across the country the focus was to help young people develop skills that could aid them in following a future career and increase their opportunities for success.
This project required a wide variety of digital and print media ranging from animation to the production of a series of videos tracking the project as it progressed. As part of the brief each group had to pick an area of focus and use this as the theme for their final product. These areas ranged from mental health to employability. Another major part of this initiative was facilitating creative workshops with the groups, where the young people involved design and create a final piece of creative art that was based on their chosen theme.
One of the groups involved which was from Derriaghy chose to create an animated rap inspired by the animated series Southpark.
The theme they decided to stick with was anti-social behaviour and drugs as this was a massive problem in their local area.
The Moneyreagh group decided that their main focus would be mental health and their final piece would be a video that is written, produced and filmed by them right down to the composition of original music to be used in the video. In this case we helped guide them in the process of video production and post processing as well as mentoring them throughout the development process.
